Summary

Executive Order 14110 directed a whole-of-government approach to safe, secure, and trustworthy AI in the United States. It required developers of certain dual-use foundation models to share safety test information with the federal government, instructed NIST to develop safety benchmarks, and directed agencies to address algorithmic bias in areas including sentencing, housing, and hiring. The order also called for standards on watermarking and labelling AI-generated content, with attention to misinformation, civil rights, labour impacts, security, and federal oversight.
